Spring is Springing!

On my way home from the Met yesterday, I happened across the first blooms of spring in Central Park. So pretty! I can't wait til the weather catches up.

Since they are right by the 81st Street exit, I walk by these trucks all the time and they always remind me of toy Tonkas or somethin. They are park-sized, so smaller than you'd expect. I can just see my brother as a five-year-old going apeshit over these.
This Better Be Good
...and it actually does look like it at least does the book justice. I have always loved Where the Wild Things Are, from my childhood when my mother would read it to me and my brother, to my college days where I would read to the kids at my job as a nursery school assistant. Maurice Sendak was truly a genius, his words and drawings have stuck with me over many years; they are, to me, definitive of nostalgia.

Color in Commercials
Just came across these new BMW ads:
The above remind me of these ads for Sony Bravia, that I was so into a couple years ago — if you like 'em, you should check out the "making of" videos on youtube too.

Lucy Doesn't Like

Today's New York Times includes a story about the struggle of the planned national tour of Lucy, the oldest human skeleton found in Ethiopia in 1974. As disappointing as the report was, it did give a glimmer of hope that the exhibition may travel to New York this summer — bring it on, we'll appreciate my namesake! (and yes, I admit over and over to being a dork).

Johnny 5 vs. Wall-E

Tonight we decided to watch Short Circuit - the movie we thought was a nostalgic piece of our childhood (though it turns out, Short Circuit 2 must have been the one we all remember). We could not concentrate because Johnny 5 bears an undeniably striking resemblance to Wall-E. I mean, they must have done this on purpose! There is no way that this "new" Pixar version of a robot is not a direct reference to our childhood friend, which I think is also brilliant of them, since their audience almost equally includes adults in my age range. I swear I thought of this all on my own, but several sites have mentioned it, including funnyordie.com, which has a hilarious post on the subject.

LEGO Mania!

Coolest thing I've seen in a long time: a blog with a different Lego scenario for each day — legomyphoto.

Universe in 09

This was a great discovery — the Universe in 09 visually organizes a TON of information, perfect for someone like me who is constantly struggling to wrap my mind around the world at large! Thanks Tina Roth Eisenberg at swiss-miss.com.
